Dunedin is situated on the
south eastern coast of
New Zealand's
South Island, located on State Highway 1 approximately 400kms south of
Christchurch, 350kms east of
Queenstown and 250kms north of Invercargill. It is home to a
population of around 120,000 and is the main centre of Otago, region renowned for its natural beauty and
spectacular scenery. Dunedin's dramatic hills surround a long, natural harbour, which attracted Maori settlers to
the site over four centuries ago. More recently the area was settled by whalers, gold miners and more so migrants
from
China and
Scotland, hence the strong Scottish
influence.
There are many pubs, bars and restaurants in Dunedin as also you will find a range of local and
international cuisine available in this very pleasant city.
